The Narrative Tragedy In this 1963 Silver Age study in cosmic social rejection, an indestructible green nuisance from the planet Poppup travels trillions of miles across the galaxy only to discover that humanity's ultimate defense mechanism is simply looking away. Armed with the ability to turn into a water bucket, a ticking bomb, or a thorn bush, The Impossible Man wreaks low-level havoc across Manhattan. Rather than pounding him into pulp, Reed Richards devises the most devastatingly passive-aggressive strategy in comic history: instructing the global populace to pretend the alien doesn't exist until he grows bored and leaves. As a framing bonus, long-suffering mailman Willie Lumpkin debuts to deliver sacks of fan mail, including letters asking why Sue Storm hasn’t been replaced yet.
